Continue after birth for a few weeks to ensure a speedy recovery and ease of breastfeeding.

During Pregnancy
ARTEMIS Pregnancy-Tea is a pleasant tasting tea that is the perfect replacement drink for coffee or black tea during this formative time of the unborn child. Drink 1-3 cups a day from the 4th month onwards. For full therapeutic benefit it is required to drink a minimum of 3 cups a day from the 5th month onwards.

After Giving Birth
Continue to drink ARTEMIS Pregnancy-Tea after birth for a minimum of 6 weeks to support uterine involution and breastfeeding. This also supports the normal healing of the uterus and ensures a speedy recovery after birth.

To support Recovery from reproductive Surgery (e.g. Hysterectomy)
ARTEMIS Pregnancy-Tea can also be drunk before and after a hysterectomy (or other reproductive surgery) in order to recover from the internal wounds sustained in the reproductive system. The name of the tea may seem strange given the circumstances of the surgery, however it is logical that the same herbs are beneficial here too.

Herb Properties
Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris)
Was traditionally seen to resemble Virgin Mary’s cloak and has a specific affinity for the female reproductive tract. As a uterine tonic it has regulating, strengthening, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, astringent (reducing bleeding) and calming properties. Traditionally it was taken during pregnancy to prevent spot bleeding, to strengthen the uterus and to prepare it for a speedy birth. It was also taken post partum to assist the recovery and healing of the womb. Its calming properties help to induce sleep.

Raspberry leaves (Rubus idaeus)
The most famous herb used during and after pregnancy. It has a specific affinity to the uterus and has been used since ancient times to encourage an easy childbirth. Its regular use during pregnancy helps to build up the strength of the uterine muscle, which promotes effective, less painful uterine contractions at birth thus shortening its duration. Post partum it supports a speedy recovery from birth and stimulates milk production. Raspberry leaves further tone and soothe the mucus membranes of the kidneys and urinary tract and help to check diarrhoea and bleeding. The digestive properties are effective in quelling nausea and morning sickness.

Nettle (Urtica dioica)
Nettle leaf is a real treasure in terms of strengthening minerals and trace minerals including calcium, magnesium and iron, trace minerals, vitamins (A & C) and enzymes, all needed in pregnancy. It is also famous as a blood cleansing and blood forming herb, which supports a clean environment for the growing foetus. Nettle leaf strengthens the kidneys and can be used in a ‘flushing regime’ to prevent urinary tract infections. It stimulates secretory glands in the stomach, liver, pancreas and gallbladder which are all needed for a healthy digestive system and proper absorption of food.

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
Is calming and relaxing, an excellent herb for soothing the nerves and lifting the spirits during pregnancy. Its affinity with the digestive system and the gentle toning effect on the liver and gallbladder help to remedy nausea, vomiting and poor appetite. It also helps to relieve fluid retention. Lemon Balm was traditionally used to relax muscle spasms and to give strength to women throughout pregnancy and during childbirth. It is useful postnatally to relieve depression and for its calming effect on the heart.

St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
One of Europe’s most sacred herbs, it is renowned for strengthening the nervous system, relaxing tension and mild anxiety and lifting the spirits. It is a prime energising tonic, which is appreciated during the sometimes tiring times of pregnancy. It is an excellent remedy for nerve pain and any kind of trauma to the nervous system including neuralgia and sciatica, backaches and headaches. Its gentle diuretic action helps to relieve fluid retention. St John’s Wort is also a liver tonic and has blood-cleansing properties.

Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)
One of the oldest plants on earth with beneficial toning properties for the reproductive and urinary system. The high Content of silica helps to strengthen the connective tissue and acts as an excellent astringent suitable for reducing the risk of haemorrhage and bleeding during birth. Horsetail is an astringent to the mucous membranes and beneficial in healing wounds and soothing painful irritations and infections of the urinary tract, e.g. cystitis. As a muscle tonic it strengthens the uterus. Its diuretic properties assist the function of the kidneys and bladder.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
One of the oldest healing plants with anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, wound healing and astringent properties. Yarrow stimulates circulation and is a vein and liver tonic. It also checks infections & haemorrhages useful at birth and post partum. Yarrow supports healthy tissue strength of the uterus complementing Raspberry and Lady’s Mantle. Its diuretic action aids the elimination of fluid and toxins to prevent cystitis. It is also a tonic for the nervous system.
