Herb Properties
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
This powerful antiseptic herb native to the hot Mediterranean captures the strength of the sun in its essential oils and helps to enhance the immune system's ability to fight against bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Its relaxing effect on the bronchial tubes helps in asthma and whooping cough. Thyme's expectorant action increases the production of fluid mucous and helps to expel phlegm. Thyme is classified as a natural antibiotic with antispasmodic properties.

Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum)
The small seeds of this Mediterranean annual have a marked expectorant and anti-spasmodic effect, making it highly useful for bronchitis and where there is persistent, irritable coughing (also whooping cough).

Elderflower blossom (Sambucus nigra)
An Elderflower tree in the garden used to be considered as having health insurance at your doorstep! Today it is proven that Elderflower has powerful anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties and is an excellent herb for the treatment of any catarrhal infection and inflammation of the upper respiratory tract such as colds, influenza, sinusitis and hay fever. Elderflower promotes perspiration and therefore assists in lowering fever. It encourages the mucous membranes to expel phlegm, assists in cleansing the body from toxins and boosts the immune response.

Linden blossom (Tilia platyphyllos)
Europe's tree of love and peace has also powerful bioactive constituents; the blossoms have proven to be the most effective remedy in a clinical trial where children suffering from influenza where either given Linden blossom tea, antibiotics or sulphonamides. The children who only drunk Linden blossom tea recovered the quickest and also felt generally stronger and better than the other children! Taken together with Elderflower blossom it is used for a speedy recovery from colds, coughs and influenza. Linden blossom have also a diaphoretic action by increasing blood supply to the skin therefore producing sweating, and thus reducing fevers and clearing catarrhal congestion. Its diuretic action is also helpful in clearing fluid and toxins. Linden blossom tea helps to strengthen the immune system and has a pleasant calming effect. Traditionally it is regularly drunk in winter as a preventative.

Plantain (Plantago lanceolata)
Nature's own antibiotic used since ancient times to treat colds, coughs, catarrh, fevers, sinusitis, irritated mucous membranes and wounds. It helps to expel phlegm and soothes inflamed and painful mucous membranes in the respiratory tract, especially useful when treating bronchial congestion and allergic conditions such as hay fever and asthma.

Sage (Salvia officinalis)
A highly antiseptic classic remedy for colds, fevers and sore throats. It is soothing to the mucus membranes giving relief to tonsillitis, bronchitis, asthma, catarrh and sinusitis. It is a tonic to the nervous system enhancing strength and vitality. Sage also regulates excessive sweating.
